Tobacco Road & AC
Well, shortly after I blogged about the AC, we started seeing temperatures in the 90's. We have computers and I just couldn't stand it any more. We have set the temp 4 degrees warmer than what we've done in the past.
We're trying to save in other ways. J noticed how hot the utility room gets when we're using the dryer. He bought a couple of clothes lines and pins.
It's amazing how quickly the clothes dry in this heat. We're also not warming up our home, which defeats the purpose of turning on the AC to begin with.

Solar drying is great. If someone in the family just can't get used to the new roughness of the fabrics, just toss them in the dryer for ten minutes on fluff. That will soften them up.
Using white vinegar for your rinse instead of fabric softeners will help them dry even faster and remove all the chemical residues of soaps and fabric softeners.
Doesn't every home in the US have outside clotheslines and you peg your washing out????? We here in Australia, only use clothes driers here in winter and only after they have 95% dried outdoors and the drier finishes them off, but for the most of it we use clothes horses around the heater to dry our clothes. You yankees are an odd lot.
